Poor Sick Child

Poor Benjamin seems to have a cold. I mentioned in the last blog that he started coughing a little and then last night he coughed all night. My poor baby! His first cold. He seems to be tolerating it pretty well, I must say. He had a runny nose and a cough all day today and seemed a little uncomfortable at times, but he still had lots of smiles for us. He enjoyed being cuddled and holding on to his 'blankie'.

In the picture of the boys cuddling, you can see he is holding on to his 'blankie', which is a cloth diaper that I use as a burp cloth. Benjamin loves holding on to the burp cloth and whenever it gets close to him he grabs it. It is not what I had imagined his 'blankie' would be, but he seems to love it!

Since Benjamin seems a little congested, I thought I would try a trick to help him be more comfortable while sleeping. We elevated one side of his crib with two styrofoam-filled boxes so that he sleeps at an incline. It seems to be helping, as he has been sleeping without coughing too much.
Recent Activities:
-He seems to get distracted sometimes while feeding. He will feed for a second then turn to have a quick look around the room before resuming. It is as though he wants to eat but doesn't want to miss anything exciting going on in the room either!
-I tell everyone that Benjamin is such a happy baby. Today demonstrates this exactly - when he went down for a nap one time, he was talking to himself (which he sometimes does before falling asleep) and then all of a sudden had a couple of frustrating cries. I suspect it had to do with being congested and generally not feeling well. I went in to the room and he gave me a big smile for a couple of seconds, and then cried a little more. He seemed to say, "I'm happy to see you, but I just am not feeling well." Although he is feeling sick, he still has a smile for me and Steve. It is very sweet.

Poor Benjamin, I hope he's on the mend very soon! Baby colds are just the worse...I'm waiting for the day Graham that can blow his nose instead of just suffering through the stuffiness!
