A Day without Naps...

Today started out really well - Benjamin didn't wake up until 7:00 am and when I went in he was quite happily reading his little book that I let him have in his crib at night. However, he decided he didn't need naps for the rest of the day. I tried getting him to take a nap at 10:00 am - but I watched him on the monitor busy himself by walking along the edges of his crib for about an hour and a half. I finally got him out, thinking he would be hungry - which he was. Then I tried again, as it was around 12:30 pm. The same thing happened - he happily played in his crib until I finally got him out at around 2:00 pm. I tried one more time, for another 30-40 minutes, but he just was not settling down. So I took him outside to play in our backyard for awhile. I was thinking he probably would want to go to bed early tonight, so he was in his crib at around 6:30 pm but he didn't settle down until 7:30 pm! I was so relieved when he finally went to sleep! I had spent the whole day basically just watching and waiting to see what he does, wondering what I should do to help him. Nonetheless, he was quite happy all day, even quite giggly - as long as things were going his way. However, if we didn't let him have a pen, for example, there were immediate tears. I just hope he sleeps well until at least 6:00 am tomorrow!

Below is a picture and then a video of Benjamin figuring out how to open his CD player and then take out the CD. He has for many months now been putting his finger in to stop the CD from spinning, and then letting go to see it spin again, but today was the first time I saw him take out the CD. He was even trying several times to put the CD player back in the player. This seems to be a favorite thing for him to do these days with things. He will take the cover off his puffs container, then put it back (well, at least try to put it back - he has been successful a couple of times, which is quite impressive!). Or he will take off his hat and then try to put it back.

I love his little squat.
